Chain the Infamous Chainmaid 16

(Varen, don’t tell me that’s all you have…)
“Won’t you just shut up already…?”
“Did someone say something?”
“No.”
“Maybe it was the test subject…?”
“In that case it doesn’t matter.”
The group of Bright Rift scientists that worked around where Varen was still strapped to the table in a laboratory in the same facility where Melody was held by Corvina decided to ignore his requests for silence. That mattered little to Varen as it was not them he desired to be quiet but rather the smiling and beautiful face he saw as he closed his eyes, the face of a beautiful man with long flowing blond hair. Varen would not be granted the silence he desired however as he could only imagine what that man would say if he saw Varen in his current predicament with his Relic clad arm being the focus of intense research with total disregard for Varen’s own health.
(You’ve never disappointed me yet Varen. You always exceed my wildest expectations for you so why lie here now when you have so much left to do. Besides, I thought you wanted–)
“Shut up!”
The scientist probing away at Varen’s left arm all jumped as he suddenly barked out the command at the voice in his head. They did not see the twisted smile that Varen did however and could not begin to comprehend.
(That’s right Varen, that’s the look you should have. Now get up Varen, I’m waiting.)
Varen gritted his teeth in rage and clenched his left fist, the monolithic circuit like runes carved into the copper gauntlet that encased his arm flaring to life with a violent red glow.
“What’s going on?”
“There’s been a sudden surge of magic in the Relic. The subject may be attempting to escape.”
“Someone call the guard. The rest of you restrain him while I prepare a sedative.”
“That won’t be necessary.”
Varen tore his left arm free of the table and promptly tore free the straps that held his body to the table. Getting the straps that held his right wrist and lower half proved more troublesome as the scientists attempted to hold him down. As a skilled swordsman and possessed by a Relic of the Age of Ash however Varen easily shrugged off their attempts. The sedative filled syringe held by the lead researcher and the sudden appearance of a pair of rifle bearing guards at the entrance of the lab however forced Varen to move with a greater sense of urgency.
“Stop, or we will fire!”
“You fools! The Relic will be useless without its host! You need simply subdue the subject while I administer a sedative!”
“I don’t think so!”
Grabbing one of the scientists who were attempting to hold him down Varen swung them around as an impromptu weapon knocking away the rest of the scientists and head researcher in a single motion. Taking the guards into consideration Varen demonstrated that his Relic provided him quite a fair bit of strength more and threw the scientist he held at the guards and knocked them over. Having a moment of freedom finally Varen quickly tore away the rest of his bindings and leapt from the table taking cover behind it.
“Crap!”
As he landed Varen felt the consequences of days of torture and lack of food and water rack his body and he knew getting out wasn’t going to be so easy. Gritting his teeth Varen concentrated and called more magic into his gauntlet and released it into his body. His skin literally steamed with the heat and the same red glowing monolithic circuit runes became visible across his whole body.
“Amazing, the subject can use the Relic to channel magic into their body as a source of fuel to increase their strength and recover from various ailments!”
“It’s not the subject, it’s Varen Elcourt! Adventurer by virtue, not license!”
Leaping out from behind the lab table Varen kneed the head researcher in the face as he corrected him and resultantly administered his own fashion of sedative. With the danger posed by the head researcher dealt with Varen was free to turn his attention to the guards who had already recovered and had taken aim. Not believing Varen would heed any further warning they opened fire on him and were struck dumb as he dodged the shots. Leveling the guards with a cold stare Varen momentarily paralyzed them with fear buying him the time he needed to act. Dashing towards the guards Varen closed the distance between them as fast as he could and crushed one of the rifles with his gauntlet clad left hand. Not having a lot of time to continue working with as the other guard began to recover Varen stepped hard to his right and grabbed the other rifle with his right hand. Not surprisingly the guard struggled to pull the gun away from Varen and fired off a shot. For Varen avoiding that shot was not even an effort and it opened up for him the opportunity to wrest the rifle away from the guard. With the riffle in his hands now Varen proceed to crush it as well with his gauntlet encased hand before turning his full attention onto the gaurds.
“You guys really shouldn’t have brought guns against me. If you wanted to put up a fight using guns you would have to be way better than you could even dream of being.”
Varen took no pleasure in the looks of terror the guards gave him but he had already devoted himself to escaping. A short while later Varen stepped out of the lab wearing a look of extreme exasperation. As he took in the labyrinthine military compound that awaited him his shoulders slumped and he sighed heavily.
“Seriously… I should have asked one of them how to get out of here, or at least where the others are being held. Then again…”
Having slumped over so his own bare feet were in clear view Varen sighed again.
“I could have just asked where my stuff was. Running around half naked in a military base filled with armed guards isn’t going to be enjoyable. Oh well, I’ve made up my mind and already started my escape anyways so I might as well go through with it. Besides, someone is going to have to make sure Chain doesn’t have a reason to lose it…”
