“Honestly, I thought you were supposed to be keeping our continued presence here a secret Sir Elliot.” “I’m afraid that Chain is not one who secrets are easily kept from.” “The Chainmaid is it?” Ignoring the apologetic smile that Elliot offered him, a grey furred Rattama in a red robe adjusted his spectacles as he looked past the hero at Chain who stood with her arms crossed. “You don’t have a problem with that do you?” “Bar that I would feel more comfortable with Sir Elliot here protecting me and you out patrolling for any assassins beyond the one I heard shouted about.” “That’s actually why I’m here. I need help tracking down the ring leader.” “Ring leader?” The Rattama gave Chain a quizzical look and the maid unfolded her arms and rested her hands on her hips as she explained. “The whole reason I even got involved with the assassins that are on the prowl tonight was because I thought I could make some quick cash when Melody and I heard them use a Tuner to cast...

“There sure are a lot of you~♪” While Chain had followed one shadowy garbed individual into the multistoried hotel Melody had pursued another. Elliot had witnessed her engaging that very one a short while beforehand outside of his hotel room window. As the Hero had come under attack by another he did not see the assassin that Melody had grabbed break the harpy’s grip and acrobatically hurl themselves up onto the roof well above the empty streets below. Melody noticed the assassin in the other building but a rain of throwing knives from above forced her to accelerate well past them. With a series of well calculated wing beats Melody escaped the knife rain and took herself up onto the roof. As she landed the shadow garbed assassin looked back at her from the edge of the roof before jumping off. “Come on~♪ I don’t want to play chase~♪” Though she complained Melody dashed after the assassin accelerated tremendously by a flap of her large wings and a gust of wind that responded t...

The blue uniformed soldier who patrolled one of the upper floor hallways of the rather impressive hotel that Elliot shared with Chain and Melody stifled a yawn. The next moment a pair of daggers came down upon their neck from behind. A surprised yell escaped from the guard as the would-be assassin failed to kill their mark quietly, actually failing to kill their mark at all. “Surprised?” A smile spread across Chain’s face as she faded into view having blocked the assassin’s strike. The assassin did not answer her question with words though, instead choosing to leap back and toss a series of small metal throwing knives at her and the soldier. The soldier was for sure that they were done for this time as they spun around in time to perceive the next attack against them. Chain was a prodigious swordsmaid however and deflected the incoming attack as she playfully twirled her sword before her. “I can deal with this idiot no problem but I think you should probably let Elliot and t...

“Even for a great city like Highroot nightfall under the boughs of the Builders’ Tree was a time of fear and trepidation. With no starlight only darkness existed under the great tree after the Great Bird Sol had long since disappeared over the horizon. In this darkness monsters thrived and preyed on those who strayed too far from the light. It thus came as no surprise that the streets were empty at night, save for those tasked with patrolling them for any monsters that somehow slipped into the city. Though they hid in the safety of their homes the citizens of Highroot would like to think that such an eventuality was unlikely as countless streetlights and spotlights kept the city lit even well after Sol left the skies visible from the city. In the royal castle of Highroot, high up beside the waterfall that fed the river that served as the city’s moat, a terrace garden wreathed in strings of lights provided a place of sanctuary for the relatively brave to await the Great Bird’s even...

“I must thank you again Chain.” “Honestly, it wasn’t that big of a deal.” “What are you talking about Link?~♪ He scared me silly yet you totally stepped up and made both him and Elliot here stop fighting~♪” “When did you get so buddy-buddy with Elliot?” “Aha, ha, ha, ha, ha~♪” “Your partner’s familiarity with me aside; it is still true Chain that you had stepped in at a most opportune time. Had I continued as I had I might have destroyed what good will there is between Lumirest and the Soarmont Adventurer Company.” As Chain, Melody, and Elliot made their way across the courtyard of the keep that served as the Company House for members of the Soarmont Adventurer Company in Highroot Chain clutched at her left temple and sighed irritably. Elliot and Melody exchanged curious looks but Chain was already ahead of the Hero and the harpy and began to answer their question as they neared the outer wall. “It’s the Company Secretary assigned to this Company House that you shoul...
